When I was very young my grandmother taught me to embroider. She also taught me how to darn socks, but that wasn't nearly as interesting for a little girl! I loved needlework, but there were times in my life when it had to take a back seat to raising a family of five and helping to support them. I am married to Ranald who has been my prop and stay for almost 50 years, a wonderfully supportive partner who has encouraged me, corrected me botanically from time to time, and who even frames my pictures for me. I think I'll keep him!
I worked as a legal secretary for many years, but following a motor accident I was forced into more sedentary activities, and my love of embroidery resurfaced. I have been a member of the Embroiderers' Guild for many years, and have learned so much by taking classes at the Guild, and also from the friendly and helpful members . I learned to do traditional Stumpwork about five years ago, and was inspired to try using it to recreate our native flowers and birds. I was asked to teach, and things have just snowballed from there. Now my days are so full that I feel I will have to live to 150 to do everything I have planned!! Stumpwork is my main occupation, but I love all kinds of embroidery - crewel, pulled thread, Hardanger, blackwork, ....... the list goes on and on, and there is never enough time to do everything.
My other consuming interest is writing and receiving letters, and I love hearing from people all over the world and in particular from other stitchers, so if you'd like to get in touch please don't hesitate to do so!
